Hello all you lovely readers, it’s your beauty editor Emilie! I hope everyone in the tri-state area has been staying snuggly during this blizzard craziness. As much as I can’t stand the cold, it’s given me an excuse to stay inside and reorganize my makeup collection, which seems to be growing more and more each month. I love organizing for a couple of reasons: One, it keeps me super sane and two, I always find awesome products that have gotten buried in the mix. This weekend, in the midst of my domestic and orderly bliss, I realized that cheek-specific makeup products are what dominate my collection. This sparked an idea. Remember my Current Favorites for The Face post? I got a lot of great feedback on it so I’ve decided to turn it into a series. Today is all about the cheeks, so if you’re looking to brighten up, chisel out or just get a little rosey then keep reading.
Bronzers: Okay so I believe certain products within the bronzer family can achieve three effects: warming, bronzing, and contouring. Each technique will add dimension to the face in increasing degrees. The Ambient Lighting Powder by Hourglass in the shade Dim Light is perfect for achieving a healthy, “I just got back from the beach” style warmth. Hoola by Benefit applies and wears in a way that can pass for a deeper tan. Too Faced’s Soleil Matte Bronzer will carve out cheek bones, slim noses and shrink foreheads.
Blushes: Cosmetic classics! My grandma and I love wearing and comparing our favorite blushes. (Hi grandma!) They look beautiful on every skin tone and add instant color. My top three favorite blushes, hands down, are by Nars, NYX, and elf. I opt for the non-matte Nars blushes that contain glittery flecks, which help them to double as highlighters. With NYX and elf the prices are low and the pigmentation is insanely intense. Seriously, a dab will do you. Swipe any of these babies on for a colorful burst.
Highlighters: I tend to bend the rules with highlighter and take it beyond the cheeks, up onto the sides of my forehead (just above the arches of my brows), along my brow bones and on my cupid’s bow. Watt’s Up by Benefit, a cream to powder highlighter, can be applied on top of your foundation and then set with powder. It will give off a totally natural sheen. I’ve been working on my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick collection. I’m a diehard fan. The mixture of luminous shades blends beautifully and tops off any makeup look. But if I had to pick one highlighter and one highlighter only it would be the Shimmering Skin Perfector by Becca in the shade Opal. It gives off the most stunning glow from within, making me look my best.
